“My dog Olive is not comfortable in front of a camera, so it is very hard for me to get a good shot of her. Gail took the time to come to my house and brought her camera and got some great shots of Olive! She then used those pictures to paint a portrait of Olive that really captured her shyness and her sweet personality. It hangs front and center in our house! Gail is a fantastic artist!” – Brenda B.
Gail Kelley, Artist
Gail is a 2009 Fine Arts Graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design. She is based in the Clintonville neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio and is at the beck and call of two English Setters. Gail began GoodDogArt in 2012, but had been painting landscapes and still life for many years.
During college, Gail focused on the human form. She thought that she would continue but found it difficult to find models, and buyers. On the suggestion of her pet daycare, she painted Bella, then Bogart, and started getting calls from others. The painting of Bogart traveled to Japan and was exhibited in an Art Exchange program
Her chosen medium is Oil paints on Canvas. She enjoys the medium’s ability to move and blend. She started this business after losing her Collie, Digger, without a special image to remember her. She started by painting her Bella and realized how much joy looking at the painting gives her. The paintings make her smile.
Gail loves working to capture the personality of your pet and to hear the excitement when someone sees the painting. She likes knowing that painting will be a reminder forever of a loved pet. There is something wonderful about having a work of art that is personal. Gail takes the time to ask where the owners think they will place the picture so that the background will complement their home.
Since starting GoodDogArt in 2012, Gail has painted numerous commissions, for people all over the country, many being repeat customers as gifts for others. She has selected several local and one national pet non-profit to have her work auctioned to benefit the charities.
