Getting a Good Image of Your Pet

“Gail has donated her talent to our auctions for many years…the resulting custom work is always amazing!” – Cindy S.

A few tips to help you get a good photo of your pet:

  • Photos taken outside or near a window, in the early morning, or late afternoon are best. Shadows help define features, so direct, harsh midday sun is not what you want. Don’t use a flash, it washes out the shadows. Overcast days are very good for photos.

  • The key is a soft natural light.

  • It is best to get down to the same level as your pet, either by sitting on the floor/ground, or bringing them up to you. You want the camera and your pet at the same level. Let your pet sniff your camera so that they are not confused when you start taking pictures.

  • IF you have a camera with a sports settings, use that to get some action shots. My camera will take 7 shots a second. Pets can move pretty fast.

  • Use the best resolution setting available on your camera.

  • You cannot take too many photos. Better to have more to chose from than too few.

  • Think about what activity your pet does that you love. Capture them doing that activity whether it is running, or sleeping. Take full body shots, take close ups..

But if all you have is one photo you love, that will work also.
